Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car, start from the center of Cape Maclear. Head northeast on the main road (M5) towards the direction of Monkey Bay. After approximately 3 kilometers, take a left turn onto a dirt road leading to Thumbi Island. Continue along this road for about 1 kilometer until you reach the parking area. From here, you may need to walk a short distance to the viewpoint.

• Public Transportation

  To reach Thumbi View Point using public transport, start at the main bus stop in Cape Maclear. Take a minibus heading to Monkey Bay. Inform the driver that you are heading to the Thumbi Island area. The fare is typically around 500 MWK. Once you reach the drop-off point near Thumbi Island, you will need to walk approximately 1 kilometer along a dirt path to reach the viewpoint. Ensure you wear comfortable shoes, as the terrain can be uneven.

• Boat

  An alternative method to get to Thumbi View Point is by boat. Arrange a boat ride from Cape Maclear to Thumbi Island. Local fishermen often offer rides, and the cost can vary, so it's best to negotiate beforehand (expect to pay around 2000-5000 MWK depending on the size of the boat and number of passengers). The boat ride takes about 15-20 minutes. Once you arrive, you can walk to the viewpoint, which is about a 20-minute trek from the beach.
