Car
To reach Uzumala Forest Reserve by car from Livingstonia, start at the main road in Livingstonia and head south on the M1 highway. Drive for approximately 10 kilometers until you see a sign for the Uzumala Forest Reserve. Turn left onto the gravel road leading into the forest reserve. Continue on this road for about 5 kilometers. Be cautious as the road may be uneven and require a vehicle with good clearance. Once you arrive at the entrance of Uzumala Forest Reserve, you may need to pay a small entrance fee, usually around 5,000 MWK.

Public Transportation
If you're using public transportation, begin by taking a minibus from Livingstonia to the nearest major town, which is Mzuzu. From Livingstonia, the minibuses leave from the central market area. The fare should be around 2,000 MWK. Once in Mzuzu, you will need to find a minibus heading towards the direction of the M1 highway. Inform the driver that you want to stop near Uzumala Forest Reserve. After getting off, you may have to walk approximately 2 kilometers to reach the entrance of the reserve. Be aware that you may need to negotiate with locals for a ride or use a taxi if public transport is scarce.

For those who prefer to walk from Livingstonia, you can take the path that leads towards the M1 highway. It is about a 10-kilometer walk. Follow the main road south until you reach the junction with the M1. From there, continue walking on the side of the road until you reach the turnoff for Uzumala Forest Reserve. This option is time-consuming but offers a chance to enjoy the scenic views of the region.
