Once you arrive at the entrance of Uzumala Forest Reserve, you may need to pay a small entrance fee, usually around 5,000 MWK.

If you're using public transportation, begin by taking a minibus from Livingstonia to the nearest major town, which is Mzuzu. From Livingstonia, the minibuses leave from the central market area. The fare should be around 2,000 MWK. Once in Mzuzu, you will need to find a minibus heading towards the direction of the M1 highway. Inform the driver that you want to stop near Uzumala Forest Reserve. After getting off, you may have to walk approximately 2 kilometers to reach the entrance of the reserve.
