Car
If you are traveling by car to Mulumbe Peak, start your journey from Mulanje Town. Head southeast on the A16 road towards the Mulanje Mountain. After about 10 km, take the left turn onto the access road leading to the Mulanje Mountain National Park. Make sure to pay the entrance fee at the park gate (approximately MK 5,000). Continue driving along the road until you reach the Likhubula Forestry Station. From here, you can park your vehicle. The trailhead for Mulumbe Peak starts near the station.
Public Transportation
To reach Mulumbe Peak using public transportation, take a minibus from Blantyre to Mulanje Town. The fare is around MK 2,000 to MK 3,000. Once you arrive in Mulanje Town, you can either hire a taxi or take another minibus to the Mulanje Mountain National Park entrance, which will cost about MK 1,000 to MK 2,000. At the park entrance, pay the entrance fee (approximately MK 5,000) and proceed to the Likhubula Forestry Station where you can start your hike to Mulumbe Peak.
Hiking
After parking your vehicle or arriving via public transport at Likhubula Forestry Station, begin your hike on the marked trail towards Mulumbe Peak. The trail is well-defined but can be steep in sections. It's advisable to have a guide, which you can hire at the Forestry Station for around MK 10,000 to MK 15,000. The hike takes approximately 4 to 5 hours to reach the summit, depending on your fitness level. Bring plenty of water and snacks, and enjoy the beautiful scenery along the way.
