Getting There

Walking
Start your journey from the Zomba Market. Head northeast on Mponda Road towards the Zomba Botanical Gardens. Once you reach the Botanical Gardens, continue walking past the entrance and follow the signs directing you towards the Zomba Plateau. After approximately 1.5 kilometers, you will reach a fork in the road. Take the left path which leads up towards the plateau. Keep walking for another 2 kilometers until you reach the Chagwa Dam area. Look for a trail on your right that leads directly to the dam.

Bicycle
Rent a bicycle from one of the local shops in Zomba. Begin your ride from the Zomba Central Market and head towards the Zomba Botanical Gardens. After passing the gardens, continue uphill towards the Zomba Plateau. Be aware that the road can be steep, so take your time. After about 3 kilometers, you will notice a sign that indicates the direction to Chagwa Dam. Follow the signs for about 1 kilometer until you reach the dam.

Public Transport (Matola)
From the Zomba Central Bus Station, take a matola (minibus) heading towards the Zomba Plateau. Inform the driver that you wish to get off at the Botanical Gardens. Once you arrive at the Botanical Gardens, disembark and walk towards the trail leading to the Zomba Plateau. Follow the path for about 2 kilometers, and look for signs directing you to Chagwa Dam. The dam is located a short walk off the main path.
