Discover more about Gulhi Bikini Beach

Gulhi Bikini Beach is the main draw of Gulhi Island, a small, quiet island in the South Malé Atoll. Measuring approximately 400 by 220 meters, Gulhi offers a more intimate and authentic Maldivian experience compared to resort islands. The beach itself is a long, narrow strip of sand that slopes gently into the sea, providing ample space for sunbathing and swimming. The designated 'bikini beach' area allows tourists to wear swimwear, respecting local customs while enjoying the sun and sea. Sun loungers and umbrellas are often available free of charge, and the beach is patrolled by locals who offer services such as renting sun loungers, selling coconuts, and hiring out jet skis and snorkeling equipment. The waters are generally calm, making it ideal for swimming and snorkeling, with a house reef located about 200 meters from the shore. Gulhi has a rich history, having been a popular tourist destination in the late 1970s and early 1980s, even before private island resorts became common. Today, the island's economy is based on fishing and boat building, with the oldest dockyard in the Maldives located on the north side of the island. The island offers a unique blend of natural beauty and local culture, making it a must-visit destination for budget-conscious travelers seeking an authentic Maldivian experience.
