Public Transport
From Valletta, take bus lines 50, 51, 52, 53, or 56 from the Valletta Bus Terminal. These buses run frequently and take approximately 30-45 minutes to reach Rabat. Get off at the Rabat bus stop, which is a short, 5-minute walk from Mdina Gate. A single bus ticket costs €2.60 and is valid for the whole day.
Taxi
Taxis are readily available throughout Malta, including at the Valletta Bus Terminal and Malta International Airport. A taxi ride from Valletta to Mdina typically costs between €30 and €40, depending on traffic and the taxi service. The journey takes approximately 20-30 minutes. Ride-sharing apps like Bolt, eCabs and Uber are also available. Taxis can drop off and pick up near the Mdina Main Gate or Greek's Gate.
Walking
From the Rabat bus stops, it's a short 5 minute walk to Mdina. Follow the signs towards Mdina Gate, crossing the bridge that connects Rabat to Mdina. The walk is mostly flat and offers scenic views of the fortress walls and surrounding landscape.
Car
If driving, follow signs to Rabat and then Mdina. Note that no public parking is allowed inside Mdina. Several car parks are available just outside the city walls, including one near the Mdina Gate and another by the Rabat bus terminus. Parking is limited, especially on busy days. Parking attendants may be present, and payment is at your discretion. There are also parking spots available in the ditch under the fortifications, accessible through a narrow tunnel.
