Public Transport

From Valletta or Sliema, take bus routes 52 or 202 to Dingli. From the Dingli bus stop (Turretta, Had-Dingli), you can take the direct bus 201 to the Cliffs bus stop, which is a few minutes walk to the Chapel. The bus trip from Dingli to Dingli Cliffs takes approximately 5 minutes and costs €3. Alternatively, you can walk from Dingli town center to the cliffs, which is approximately a 15-minute walk. A single bus ticket costs €2.00.
Walking

If you are already at Dingli Cliffs, you can walk to St. Mary Magdalene Chapel. From the main viewpoint, head towards the dirt road that leads into the area where the chapel is located. It's about a 10-minute walk. Follow the path, and you will see the chapel ahead. Be cautious as the terrain can be uneven.
Taxi

Taxis are available from most locations in Malta. A taxi from Valletta to Dingli Cliffs will cost approximately €15-€20 and take about 20 minutes. A taxi from Dingli town center to Dingli Cliffs will cost approximately €10.

St. Mary Magdalene Chapel, known locally as 'il-kappella tal-irdum' (chapel of the cliffs), is a Roman Catholic chapel that provides a tranquil experience with breathtaking panoramic views. Located on the edge of the Dingli Cliffs, the highest point in Malta, the chapel has been a landmark for centuries. The chapel's origins trace back to the 15th century, with the earliest documented reference dating to 1446. The original structure fell into disrepair and collapsed, leading to its reconstruction in 1646. Bishop Miguel Juan Balaguer Camarasa reopened it on April 15, 1646, an event commemorated by a Latin inscription above the doorway. The chapel's simple design is typical of Maltese wayside chapels, featuring a rectangular structure with a single doorway and a circular window. Inside, the chapel features an altar built of Maltese limestone. Throughout its history, the chapel has served as a point of reference for fishermen and a place of worship for local farmers. In 1777, a plaque was installed stating 'non gode l'immunita ecclesias' to indicate that the chapel did not offer sanctuary to criminals. The chapel was deconsecrated in the 19th century but later reconsecrated. It has withstood the test of time, including a lightning strike in 1936 that damaged the façade. Restoration efforts in 2005, supervised by architect David Vassallo, reinforced the structure and replaced old materials. Today, St. Mary Magdalene Chapel continues to draw visitors seeking solace, spiritual reflection, and stunning coastal scenery. A mass is held every year on July 22nd in commemoration of Mary Magdalene.
