Popeye Village: A Whimsical Film Set Turned Fun Park

Nestled in Anchor Bay, just 3 kilometers from Mellieħa, Popeye Village is a captivating open-air museum and family entertainment complex. Originally constructed in 1979 as the set for the 1980 musical production 'Popeye,' the village has evolved into one of Malta's major tourist attractions.The construction of Sweethaven Village was an ambitious project, requiring an international team of 165 builders working tirelessly for seven months. The village consists of nineteen wooden buildings. Hundreds of logs were brought from the Netherlands, and wood shingles were imported from Canada. A breakwater was constructed to protect the set from high seas.Today, visitors can explore the original film set, meet Popeye and his friends, and enjoy a variety of attractions. These include animation shows, a comic museum, a cinema showing a documentary about the film's production, and silversmith demonstrations. During the summer months, the park features water activities such as an inflatable water park in Anchor Bay, a splash pool, and a play pool for young children.Popeye Village also hosts seasonal events, with decorations and themes changing for Easter, Halloween, and Carnival.
