The Blue Lagoon, nestled between Comino and the islet of Cominotto, is a mesmerizing slice of paradise in the Maltese archipelago. Its shallow, turquoise waters and white sandy seabed create an inviting natural swimming pool, making it a top attraction in Malta. Comino's history is as intriguing as its landscape. The island, also known as Kemmuna, has been inhabited since Roman times and served as a haven for pirates in the Middle Ages. The Knights of Malta later used it for hunting and as a place of exile for errant knights. In 1618, they built St. Mary's Tower, which still stands today, offering panoramic views and a glimpse into the island's past. Today, Comino is a nature reserve and bird sanctuary, attracting visitors with its pristine waters and untouched beauty. Besides the Blue Lagoon, the island offers other swimming spots like Santa Marija Bay and San Niklaw Bay, as well as diving sites and hiking trails. Visitors can explore the island's rugged coastline, discover hidden caves, and breathe in the scent of sea salt mixed with wild thyme. While the Blue Lagoon can get crowded, especially in summer, its natural beauty and tranquil atmosphere make it a must-see destination. Whether you're seeking relaxation, adventure, or a connection with history, the Blue Lagoon offers an unforgettable Mediterranean experience.
