From Valletta, several bus routes will take you to Rabat, which is located just outside Mdina. Bus routes 50, 51, 52, 53, and 56 are among those that serve the route. The bus trip takes approximately 30-45 minutes. Get off at the Rabat bus terminal, which is a short walk from the Mdina Gate. A single bus ticket costs around €2-€3. From the bus stop, it's a short, signposted walk to the gate.

If you are already in Rabat, the suburb outside Mdina, reaching the Mdina Gate is a straightforward walk. From St. Paul's Cathedral in Rabat, walk north along Triq San Pawl, then turn left onto Triq il-Fosos. Continue straight, and you'll see the Mdina Gate directly ahead. The walk is short and takes only a few minutes. There are no costs involved.

From Valletta, a taxi ride to Mdina Gate typically takes around 20 minutes. Taxis are readily available at the Valletta City Gate. The estimated fare for a one-way trip is approximately €20-€30. Note that taxis can drop off and pick up passengers near the gate but cannot enter Mdina.
