Public Transit - Bus
If you are starting from Downtown Boston, take the MBTA bus #9 from the South Station Bus Terminal. Board the bus heading towards 'M Street and L Street'. Stay on the bus for approximately 25 minutes. Get off at the stop 'William J Day Blvd / Castle Island'. From the bus stop, walk a short distance towards the waterfront; Castle Island will be clearly visible.
Public Transit - Subway and Bus
From Park Street Station in Downtown Boston, take the Red Line subway towards Ashmont. Ride for 6 stops and get off at Ashmont Station. From Ashmont, transfer to the Mattapan Trolley towards Mattapan Station. Ride the trolley for 3 stops and get off at 'Milton and Neponset'. From there, catch the #10 bus heading towards 'South Boston'. After about 10 minutes, get off at 'William J Day Blvd / Castle Island'. Walk towards the water to reach Castle Island.
Walking
If you're staying in South Boston, Castle Island is within walking distance. From East Broadway Station, head east on East Broadway Street until you reach L Street. Turn left on L Street and continue until you reach William J Day Blvd. Turn right on William J Day Blvd and walk straight for about 10 minutes until you reach Castle Island.
Bike Rental
You can rent a bike from a Bluebikes station in Boston. If you're near the Seaport area, take the bike along the waterfront path towards Castle Island. Follow the bike path along the harbor, which will lead you directly to Castle Island, approximately a 20-minute ride. Look for bike racks upon your arrival to secure your bike.
