Walking
From downtown Gloucester, start at the Cape Ann Museum on Pleasant Street. Head southwest on Pleasant St toward Main St, then turn right onto Main St. Continue straight for about 0.5 miles until you reach the Gloucester Harbor. From there, follow the waterfront path that leads to the train station at 1 Railroad Ave. Once at the train station, board the MBTA commuter rail towards North Station in Boston. After approximately 30 minutes, disembark at the Alewife station. Transfer to the Alewife subway station and take the Red Line toward Ashmont. Disembark at the Harvard Square station, which is approximately 25 minutes from Alewife. Upon exiting the station, you will be in Harvard Square.

From downtown Gloucester, walk to the nearest bus stop on Main St. Board the MBTA bus number 439 heading toward Alewife Station. The bus ride will take about 40 minutes. Once you arrive at Alewife Station, transfer to the Alewife subway station and take the Red Line toward Ashmont. Disembark at the Harvard Square station, approximately 25 minutes later. When you exit the station, you will find yourself in Harvard Square.

If you prefer cycling, you can rent a bike from one of the local bike rental shops in Gloucester. Start your journey at the Cape Ann Museum on Pleasant Street. Head southwest on Pleasant St toward Main St, then turn right onto Main St. Continue straight to the Gloucester Harbor and then take the scenic route along the waterfront until you reach the train station at 1 Railroad Ave. Park your bike securely at the station, then board the MBTA commuter rail toward North Station in Boston.
