Bus
From the Gloucester downtown area, walk to the nearest bus stop on Main Street. Take the #1 bus towards Boston. Stay on the bus for approximately 45 minutes until you reach South Station in Boston. Once at South Station, transfer to the #9 bus towards South Boston Waterfront. Get off the bus at the South Boston Waterfront stop. From there, walk a short distance towards the waterfront area to reach your destination.
Train
Head to the Gloucester train station located on Railroad Avenue. Board the MBTA commuter rail towards North Station. After about 40 minutes, you will arrive at North Station. From there, walk to Haymarket Station and take the Green Line train inbound towards Government Center. Transfer to the Red Line at Park Street towards Ashmont and get off at the Broadway Station. From Broadway Station, it’s a 15-minute walk to the South Boston Waterfront.
Bicycle
If you prefer biking, you can rent a bike at one of the local rental shops in Gloucester. Start your ride heading southeast on Main Street towards the coast, then follow the scenic route along the coastline towards Boston. The ride is approximately 30 miles and should take around 2-3 hours depending on your pace. Once you arrive in South Boston, follow the signs to the South Boston Waterfront.
Walking
If you are up for a long walk, you can start from downtown Gloucester and walk towards Boston. It’s a scenic route along the coast, but it’s about 30 miles and will take several hours. Follow the shoreline and keep heading south until you reach Boston. Once in Boston, navigate towards the South Boston Waterfront area by following the signs or using a map.
