Bus
From Lowell, head to the nearest bus terminal, which is the Lowell Transportation Center at 1 Gorham Street. Board a bus on the MBTA's commuter rail that heads towards Salem. You will need to transfer at the North Station in Boston. From there, catch the commuter rail to Salem. Once you arrive at the Salem station, exit and walk towards the waterfront along Washington Street which will lead you to the Salem Maritime National Historic Site.
Train
Make your way to the Lowell Train Station located at 200 E Merrimack St. Take a commuter rail train on the MBTA's Lowell Line towards Boston. At North Station, switch to the Newburyport/Rockport Line towards Salem. When you arrive at the Salem station, exit the train and walk towards Washington Street. Follow Washington Street down to Derby Wharf where you will find the Salem Maritime National Historic Site.
Walking
If you are in the downtown Lowell area, you can walk to the nearest bus stop or train station and take public transport as outlined above. However, if you prefer to walk, head towards the Merrimack River and follow the river’s path until you reach the train station. Walking from downtown Lowell to Salem directly is not advisable due to the distance, so public transport is recommended.
