Getting There

Bicycle
From the center of Cozumel, head south on Avenida 5 Sur for about 1.5 km until you reach the waterfront. Turn right onto the coastal road, Avenida Melgar, and continue to the southern tip of the island. Rent a bicycle from one of the local shops, such as Cozumel Bike Rentals, to enjoy a scenic ride along the coast. After about 10 km, you will reach the ferry terminal at Playa del Carmen. Take the ferry to Cancún, and from there, you can take a taxi or local bus to Playa Akumal, which is located about 30 km south of Cancún. The beach is well-marked and has parking available.

Start at the main square in Cozumel, Parque Benito Juárez. Walk to the main bus terminal located nearby. Take the bus to Playa del Carmen, which runs frequently throughout the day. Once you arrive in Playa del Carmen, you can catch a local colectivo (shared minibus) heading south to Akumal. The journey from Playa del Carmen to Akumal will take about 30 minutes. Make sure to tell the driver your destination, and they will drop you off close to the beach entrance.

From your hotel or any location in Cozumel, call a taxi to take you to the ferry terminal. Once at the terminal, purchase your ferry ticket to Playa del Carmen. After the 30-minute ferry ride, take a taxi from the Playa del Carmen ferry terminal directly to Playa Akumal. The taxi ride will take approximately 30 minutes, and you can expect to pay a reasonable fare for this distance.
