If you're traveling by car from the Gulf Coast, start your journey by heading towards the city of Pachuca. Use the main highway, Mexican Federal Highway 85D (Pachuca - Ciudad de México), and follow the signs towards Pachuca. Once you reach Pachuca, take the exit for Highway 130 towards Cardonal. Continue on Highway 130 for approximately 90 km (about 1.5 hours) until you reach the turnoff for Ejido San Cristóbal. Follow the signs directing you to Grutas Tolantongo. There is parking available at the site, but it may require a small fee.

Public Transportation
To reach Grutas Tolantongo using public transportation, first, take a bus from your location in the Gulf Coast to Pachuca. Various bus companies operate on this route, and the journey typically takes around 2-3 hours. Once in Pachuca, head to the Texcoco or Central de Autobuses, where you can find buses heading to Cardonal. The bus ride from Pachuca to Cardonal will take about 1.5 hours. After arriving in Cardonal, you can take a local taxi or a colectivo (shared taxi) to Grutas Tolantongo, which is about a 30-minute ride. Be prepared to pay a small fee for the taxi or colectivo.
