Car
If you are driving, start from Ciudad Valles, which is a common base for visitors to the Huasteca region. From Ciudad Valles, take the road towards San Luis Potosí (Highway 85D) and follow the signs for the 'Tamul' waterfalls. After approximately 40 minutes, you will reach the town of Tanchachín. From Tanchachín, continue on the road until you reach the designated parking area near the river. There is a small fee for parking, typically around 50 pesos. Be aware that the road can be winding and may have unpaved sections, so drive carefully.
Public Transportation
To reach Cascada de Tamul via public transportation, take a bus from Ciudad Valles to Tanchachín. Buses to Tanchachín leave frequently from the main bus terminal in Ciudad Valles and the fare is usually around 30 to 50 pesos. Once you arrive in Tanchachín, you will need to hire a local boat service to take you along the river to the waterfalls. The boat ride costs approximately 300 to 500 pesos per person depending on the size of the group and includes a guide. The boat ride typically takes about 30 minutes and offers beautiful views of the surrounding landscape.
Hiking/Walking
If you are feeling adventurous and are in good physical condition, you can hike to Cascada de Tamul from Tanchachín. The hike is about 4 kilometers and follows a trail along the river. Please ensure you have appropriate footwear and carry enough water. While this is a more strenuous option, the scenery along the way is stunning, and you will have the opportunity to explore the natural beauty of the Huasteca region up close.
