Local know-how to help you travel smarter and make the most of every moment.
Car
If you are driving, start by heading towards the town of Ciudad Valles. From Ciudad Valles, take the road to San Luis Potosi (Mex 85). After approximately 35 kilometers, you will see signs for Minas Viejas. Follow the signs and turn onto the road leading to the falls. This road is unpaved and can be a bit bumpy, so drive carefully. Once you arrive at the parking area, you may have to pay a small fee for parking, which is typically around 50 to 100 MXN.
Public Transportation
To reach Cascadas de Minas Viejas using public transportation, first take a bus from Ciudad Valles to the town of El Aguacate. Buses leave frequently from the main bus station in Ciudad Valles, and the fare is usually around 30 MXN. Upon arriving in El Aguacate, you will need to hire a local taxi (approximately 100 to 150 MXN) or arrange for a shared ride to the entrance of the falls. Note that the taxi drivers may have set rates, so it's advisable to confirm the price before getting in.
Hiking
For those adventurous enough to hike, start from the parking area at the entrance. Follow the marked trails that lead down to the falls. The hike is approximately 2 km each way and can take about 30 to 45 minutes depending on your pace. Make sure to wear sturdy shoes and bring water, as the trails can be steep and uneven.
