Walking
From the center of Downtown Playa del Carmen (for example, starting at the famous 5th Avenue), head east towards the beach. Walk along Avenida 1 Norte until you reach Calle 12. Here, turn left (north) and continue walking until you reach the intersection with Avenida 10. Turn right (east) on Avenida 10 and walk until you reach the beach area. Continue walking along the beach promenade (Paseo del Carmen) until you reach Playa Xcalacoco. This should take approximately 30-40 minutes depending on your pace and stops along the way.

Public Transport (Collectivo)
From Downtown Playa del Carmen, you can take a collectivo (shared van) from the main terminal, located at Calle 2 and Avenida 15. Look for a collectivo heading towards Puerto Morelos; they frequently pass through this route. The fare is approximately 30-40 pesos (as of October 2023). Get off at the Playa Xcalacoco stop, which is usually announced by the driver or marked by signage. From the collectivo drop-off point, you may need to walk a short distance to the beach (about 5-10 minutes).

You can rent a bicycle from various rental shops in Downtown Playa del Carmen. Simply ask for a bike rental service near the beach or 5th Avenue. The rental cost is around 100-200 pesos for a few hours. Once you have your bike, head east towards the beach and follow the coastal road north, cycling along the beachfront until you arrive at Playa Xcalacoco.
