Car
If you are starting from the Visitor Center at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, head south on M-22 for approximately 10 miles. At the junction with M-72, turn right to head west. Continue on M-72 for about 30 miles until you reach the traffic circle in Traverse City. Take the second exit onto US-31 South. Drive for about 5 miles and then turn left onto E. Front St. Follow E. Front St. until it becomes N. Park St. After about 1 mile, turn right onto Cass St. and follow it until you reach the end of the road. There will be parking available near the waterfront. From here, you can walk to the Hippie Tree located near the beach.

To reach Hippie Tree using public transportation, first locate the nearest bus station in Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Take the Michigan Flyer or another local bus service to Traverse City. Once you arrive at Traverse City, you can use the local bus service, or a rideshare service like Uber or Lyft to get to the Hippie Tree. Make sure to ask the driver to drop you off at the intersection of E. Front St. and N. Park St., where you can access the walking path to the tree.
