Getting There

• Car

  If you're traveling by car, head towards Manistique, Michigan. From US-2, take the exit for MI-94 N/MI-183 N. Follow MI-183 N until you reach the intersection with Sawmill Rd. Turn left onto Sawmill Rd. Continue on Sawmill Rd for about 3 miles, and you will reach Kitch-iti-kipi, also known as the Big Spring. There is a parking area available for visitors.

• Public Transportation

  Using public transportation can be challenging since there are limited options in the Upper Peninsula. The closest bus service is provided by Indian Trails, which may have routes from larger cities (like Escanaba or Marquette) to Manistique. Check their schedule in advance, as services may not run daily. Once in Manistique, you can use a taxi service or rideshare (if available) to reach Kitch-iti-kipi, which is approximately 6 miles from downtown Manistique.

• Bicycle

  For the more adventurous, cycling is an option. If you're already in the Manistique area, you can rent a bicycle from local shops or use your own. From downtown Manistique, head north on MI-183 N towards Sawmill Rd. This route is approximately 6 miles and is scenic but be cautious of vehicle traffic. There are limited bike lanes, so it’s advisable to wear a helmet and be aware of your surroundings.

• Walking

  Walking to Kitch-iti-kipi is not practical for most visitors due to the distance from Manistique (approximately 6 miles). However, if you are staying at a nearby lodge or campsite, you can walk to the spring by following Sawmill Rd, which features beautiful scenery along the way. Ensure you have proper walking shoes and plan for the time it will take to walk this distance.
