Be cautious as this road can be busy with vehicle traffic. Continue for about 1.5 miles (approximately 30-40 minutes walking). Look for signage indicating Butterwort Cliffs SNA along the roadside. When you see the entrance sign for Butterwort Cliffs, you will find a small parking area on your right. The entrance to the SNA is just a short walk from there.

  • Biking

    If you have access to a bike, start at the Grand Marais Recreation Park. Head south on 3rd Avenue until you reach Wisconsin Street, then turn right. Continue on Wisconsin Street until you reach MN-61. Turn left onto MN-61. Use the bike lane where available and continue for about 1.5 miles. Look for the Butterwort Cliffs SNA sign. The entrance will be on your right, with a small parking area available.

    For a more scenic route, you can start from the Grand Marais Harbor and hike along the shore. Follow the shoreline trail north until you reach the end of the harbor. From there, head up the hill toward MN-61. Once you reach the highway, turn left and head south for about 1 mile. The entrance to Butterwort Cliffs SNA will be on your right. This route offers beautiful views of the lake and surrounding nature but can take longer.
