Standing at 202 feet, the monument serves as a lasting reminder of the naval forces' dedication and sacrifice during this pivotal chapter of the Civil War. The monument features sculptures of four prominent naval officers: Admirals Farragut and Porter, and Flag Officers Davis and Foote, each of whom commanded naval forces during the two-year campaign to capture the city. Completed in 1911, its dedication was delayed until 1917, adding to its historical significance. The monument stands on a ridge above the current location of the gunboat U.S.S.
