    The Suvorov Monument stands as a proud emblem of Tiraspol, the capital of Transnistria. This impressive monument pays tribute to Alexander Suvorov, a revered Russian generalissimo and the founder of Tiraspol. Erected in 1979, the monument is situated on Suvorov Square, the city's main square, and is considered one of the finest artistic representations of Suvorov in the former USSR.The monument was created by sculptors Vladimir and Valentin Artamonov, with architectural design by Y. Druzhinin and Y. Chistyakov. The bronze statue depicts Suvorov on horseback and is positioned on a small hill within the square. The square itself is surrounded by significant buildings, including the Memorial of Glory, the Supreme Council of Transnistria, and the Palace of Children and Teenagers.Alexander Suvorov is credited with establishing Tiraspol in 1792, when he ordered the construction of a fortress on the left bank of the Dniester River as part of the Dniester defense line. The monument has become a symbol of Tiraspol and Transnistria, appearing on banknotes and postage stamps.
