    Curchi Monastery, located in the Orhei district, is a prominent symbol of Moldovan spirituality and architectural heritage. Situated in the picturesque Vatici valley, the monastery is surrounded by forests and orchards, creating a peaceful atmosphere for visitors.Founded in 1773 by the brothers Iordache and Mihail Curchi, the monastery began as a small wooden hermitage. Over time, it evolved into a large monastic complex with five churches. The main church, the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Lord, was built in 1872 in the Baroque style, inspired by the St. Andrew Church in Kyiv and designed by Italian architect Bartolomeo Rastrelli. Its dome rises to 57 meters, making it the highest in Moldova. Other notable churches include the Church of St. Nicholas and the Church of All Saints.The monastery has had a turbulent history. In 1958, it was closed by Soviet authorities and converted into a psychiatric hospital from 1961 to 1995, leading to neglect and damage of the site. Restoration efforts began in the early 2000s, and the monastery has since regained its status as a spiritual and cultural center. Today, Curchi Monastery attracts pilgrims and tourists alike, drawn to its tranquil ambiance, architectural beauty, and historical significance. Visitors can explore the grounds, admire the frescoes and religious objects, and witness spiritual ceremonies.
