Nestled in the heart of Hîncești, the Manuc Bey Mansion stands as a testament to Moldova's rich history and architectural elegance. This historical complex, officially named the Manuc Bey Historic Architectural Complex, is a major tourist destination in Moldova. The mansion's story begins with Manuc-Emmanuel Mîrzoian, an Armenian merchant and diplomat who acquired the Hîncești estate. Although Manuc Bey did not build the mansion, it was constructed by his son Murat (Ivan) and completed by his nephew Grigore (Gregory) between 1858 and 1861.The architectural design, attributed to Alexander Bernardazzi, showcases a French-style castle featuring large windows and loggias. The complex includes Manuc's Palace, the House of the Bailiff, the Countess's Building, the Hunting Castle, and a watchtower. Legend has it that the interior was decorated in Armenian, Turkish, Moldavian, and European styles, with frescoes by the renowned painter Ivan Aivazovsky. The palace was once connected to other buildings via glass galleries.Visitors can explore the historical and ethnographic museum within the Hunting Castle, which houses over 20,000 artifacts related to the Prince's family. The surrounding park, though smaller than its original 10 hectares, provides a serene setting for appreciating the mansion's beauty. Some locals claim the existence of an underground tunnel network, adding an air of mystery to the estate. The mansion has undergone restoration and is now open to visitors.
