Discover more about Rudi Monastery

Rudi Monastery, officially known as the Monastery of the Holy Trinity, is a serene and historically significant site located in the village of Rudi, in the Soroca region of Moldova. Situated approximately 200 km north of Chisinau, the monastery is nestled within the picturesque Rudi-Arionesti landscape, not far from the Dniester River. This location is known for its natural beauty and historical significance, boasting prehistoric remains, nature reserves, and ancient fortresses. Founded in the 1770s by brothers Andronache and Teodor Rudea, with financial support from a merchant named Donciul, the monastery's 'Holy Trinity' church exemplifies old Moldavian religious architecture. The architecture is reminiscent of 16th-17th century medieval Moldavian churches. The monastery has, over the centuries, maintained a traditional monastic way of life. Throughout its history, Rudi Monastery has faced periods of closure and repurposing. In 1846, local authorities closed the temple, and in 1948, it was shut down again, transformed into an orphanage and later a children's hospital. However, it was reopened in 1921 and again in 1992, undergoing restoration to regain its former splendor. Today, Rudi Monastery stands as a testament to Moldovan history, culture, and religious devotion, attracting visitors with its architectural beauty and tranquil atmosphere.
