Established in 1950 at the initiative of Leonid Brezhnev, it was initially named the Central Park of Culture and Rest of the Leninist Komsomol. The park's current name, Valea Morilor, meaning "Valley of the Mills," is a nod to the watermills that once dotted the area.Designed by architect Robert Kurz, the park spans 114 hectares, with Valea Morilor Lake at its heart covering 34 hectares. A 2.5-kilometer path encircles the lake, offering scenic views and recreational opportunities. The park is home to diverse tree species, including Canadian poplar, wild chestnut, and Japanese sophora. The lake is populated with fish and waterfowl.Valea Morilor Park features several attractions, including the Summer Theater, built in 1957, which can seat up to 6,700 people. The park also has a daytime cinema, a children's town, a beach, and a boat station. Over the years, the park has been a base for water sports, sports fields, fishing spots, and even a city skating rink on the lake during winter.Visitors can explore the Cascade Staircase, which has 218 steps and is longer than the Potemkin Stairs in Odesa. The park also features the Witches' Pond, adding a touch of local folklore.In 2006, the lake was drained to address chemical contamination and was refilled in 2011.
