Discover more about Eternity Memorial Complex

The Eternity Memorial Complex in Chișinău stands as a solemn testament to the sacrifices made during the Great Patriotic War. Inaugurated on May 9, 1975, the complex, originally known as the Victory Memorial, commemorates the 30th anniversary of the Soviet Union's victory in World War II. It was built on the site of three old cemeteries: Lutheran, Orthodox, and Lipovan. The centerpiece of the memorial is a striking 25-meter high pyramid composed of five stylized rifles. These bayonets, crafted from black and red granite, symbolize the five years of the war, with the years 1941-1945 engraved on each. At the base of the pyramid, an eternal flame burns continuously, honoring the fallen. The complex also features six stone steles adorned with compositions depicting key stages of the war. Along the alley, 155 marble slabs bear the names of soldiers who perished in the battles for Moldova's liberation. A monument dedicated to the War of Independence of Moldova from 1991-1992, called "Grieving Mother," also stands in the complex. Visitors can witness the changing of the guard, a particularly moving ceremony during national holidays. The complex provides a serene escape from the city, inviting contemplation and respect.
