Getting There

  • Public Transport

    From Chisinau, take a bus to Orhei. From Orhei, take a taxi to Saharna. The bus journey to Orhei takes approximately 1 hour, and the taxi to Saharna takes around 1 hour and 15 minutes. The bus fare is approximately 60 MDL, and the taxi fare is around 200-300 MDL.

  • Car

    From Chisinau, drive north towards Saharna. The journey is approximately 100 km and takes around 1 hour and 30 minutes. From Saharna Monastery, exit the parking area and head southeast on the local road. Drive for approximately 1.5 kilometers along the main road, which will lead you through picturesque countryside. Look for signs indicating Saharna Waterfall and follow them. After you reach a fork, take the left path. Continue straight for another 0.5 kilometers until you find a designated parking area for the waterfall. Parking is usually free.

  • Walking

    From Saharna Monastery, start from the monastery and head southeast along the main road. It's about a 2-kilometer walk. Follow the road until you see signs for the waterfall. The path is fairly straightforward and offers beautiful views of the surrounding nature, making it a pleasant hike.

Saharna Waterfall is one of Moldova's most cherished natural attractions, located in the enchanting Saharna valley. According to legend, the construction of the monastery was aided by the Virgin Mary, who indicated the place to build the monastery priest. Visitors often enjoy hiking the trails that lead to the waterfall, which provide stunning views of the surrounding landscape. The area is also ideal for picnicking, making it a great place to unwind and connect with nature. The river Saharna has 22 waterfalls on its way. One of the most beautiful is very close to the monastery. It falls down from a height of 10 meters. The water forms a deep gulf which is called "Gipsy Hole".
