Inaugurated in 1912, the monument celebrated the centenary of the victory in the Patriotic War of 1812 and the inclusion of Bessarabia into Russia. Funds for the monument were collected by soldiers and officers of the 55th Podolsk Infantry Regiment. The monument is an obelisk of gray labradorite, topped with a bronze eagle. Originally located in the Bender Fortress next to the Alexander Nevsky Military Church, it was moved to its current location on Panina Street during Soviet times.
