If you are driving in the Dzungarian Basin, head north towards the Khovsgol region. From the city of Khovd, take the A-10 highway heading northeast. Continue on this road for approximately 250 km until you reach the town of Jargalant. From Jargalant, take a local dirt road heading directly north which will lead you to Ulaan Taiga. The total distance from Khovd to Ulaan Taiga is about 350 km, and the journey may take around 6-8 hours depending on road conditions.
Public Transportation (Bus)
To reach Ulaan Taiga by public transport, start by taking a bus from Khovd to Jargalant. Buses leave daily from the Khovd bus station, and the fare is approximately 15,000 MNT. The bus ride will take around 5-6 hours. Once in Jargalant, you can hire a local taxi or share a ride with other travelers to reach Ulaan Taiga. The cost for a taxi from Jargalant to Ulaan Taiga is about 20,000 MNT, and you can negotiate this fare depending on the number of passengers.
Shared Taxi
If you prefer a more direct route, consider taking a shared taxi from Khovd to Jargalant, which can be found at the local taxi stand. Shared taxis usually leave once they are full and cost around 30,000 MNT per person. The trip will take approximately 4-5 hours. After reaching Jargalant, you can find local drivers who offer rides to Ulaan Taiga.
