If you're traveling by car, start from the main towns in Zavkhan River Valley, such as Uliastai or Khovd. Head southeast towards Kharkhorin. The most common route is via the A-2 highway. After approximately 150 kilometers, you will reach Kharkhorin. Look for signs directing you to Erdene Zuu Monastery, which is located just outside of Kharkhorin. Once you arrive, parking is available near the entrance. Please note that there is an entrance fee of 10,000 Mongolian Tugriks per person for the museum and temple complex.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, take a bus or minivan from Uliastai to Kharkhorin. The journey typically takes around 4-6 hours. Upon arriving in Kharkhorin, you can either walk to Erdene Zuu Monastery, which is about a 20-minute walk from the bus station, or you can hire a local taxi for a short ride. Make sure to confirm the fare before starting your ride. Remember to carry 10,000 Mongolian Tugriks for the entrance fee.
Taxi
If you are in Kharkhorin and prefer a more direct route to Erdene Zuu Monastery, consider hiring a taxi. Taxis are readily available in the city and can take you directly to the monastery. Make sure to negotiate the fare beforehand; the ride should not cost more than 5,000 to 10,000 Mongolian Tugriks depending on the negotiation and distance.
