Getting There

Walking
If you're starting from the Mammoth Hot Springs area in Yellowstone National Park, walk south towards the main road. Follow the signs leading to the North Entrance of Yellowstone National Park. This will take you to the Old Yellowstone Trail. Continue walking along the trail until you reach the intersection with Highway 89. Turn left onto Highway 89 and continue walking for approximately 1 mile until you reach the Yellowstone Heritage and Research Center, located at 20 Old Yellowstone Trail S, Gardiner, MT 59030. Make sure to bring water and wear comfortable shoes, as the walk may take around 30-40 minutes.

For those who prefer biking, start at the Mammoth Hot Springs area. Rent a bike from one of the nearby rental shops if you don't have one. Head south towards the main road and follow the directions to the North Entrance of Yellowstone National Park. Once on the Old Yellowstone Trail, continue biking until you reach Highway 89. Turn left and bike approximately 1 mile to the Yellowstone Heritage and Research Center, which will be on your left at 20 Old Yellowstone Trail S, Gardiner, MT 59030. The route is relatively flat and should take about 15-20 minutes.
