Ben Youssef Madrasa: A Jewel of Islamic Architecture in Marrakech

Getting There

• Car

  If you're driving, head towards the Medina of Marrakesh. Use a GPS or a maps app, entering 'Ben Youssef Madrasa' or the coordinates 31.632032, -7.987254. Upon reaching the Medina, look for parking options nearby, as you cannot drive into the narrow streets of the Medina. Public parking is available at several locations, such as Parking Koutoubia. From the parking area, it's a short walk. Head towards the Rue de la Alouda and continue straight until you reach the Ben Youssef Madrasa, which is located at the intersection of Rue de la Alouda and Rue Ben Youssef.

• Public Transportation

  If you're using public transport, take a bus or taxi to the main bus station in Marrakesh, called Gare Routière. From there, you can either take a local bus or a taxi to the Medina. If you choose a taxi, make sure to agree on the fare before getting in. Once you arrive at the Medina, you can either walk to the Ben Youssef Madrasa or opt for a horse-drawn carriage (calèche) for a more traditional experience. If walking, follow the signs towards the Medina, and upon reaching the main square (Jemaa el-Fnaa), navigate through the bustling streets towards the Rue Ben Youssef.

• Walking

  If you're already within the Medina, simply ask locals for directions to Ben Youssef Madrasa, as it is a well-known landmark. From Jemaa el-Fnaa, head north towards Rue Ben Youssef. The madrasa is located just a short walk away, and the entrance is on Rue Ben Youssef. Be mindful of your surroundings, as the streets can be crowded and winding.
