Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car, you will likely start from Marrakech or Ouarzazate. From Marrakech, take the N9 road towards Ouarzazate. This journey takes about 4 hours. Once in Ouarzazate, follow the signs to the N12, heading towards Zagora. After approximately 1 hour, you will reach Zagora. From Zagora, continue on the N9 road for about 1 hour to reach Mhamid. The desert area is accessible directly from Mhamid village, located at the coordinates R7X5+44, Mhamid.

• Bus

  If you prefer public transportation, take a bus from Marrakech to Ouarzazate. Buses run frequently and the journey takes about 4 hours. Upon arrival in Ouarzazate, transfer to a bus heading to Zagora. This leg of the journey takes about 1 hour. Once in Zagora, you will need to catch a shared taxi (called 'grand taxi') to Mhamid. The grand taxi will take you directly to Mhamid, which is approximately a 1-hour drive.

• Shared Taxi

  Once you are in Zagora, you can also take a shared taxi directly to Mhamid. The cost for a shared taxi from Zagora to Mhamid is typically around 50 MAD (Moroccan Dirham) per person. Shared taxis depart once they are full, so be prepared for a short wait. The drive to Mhamid takes about 1 hour.

• Local Guide/4x4 Tour

  For a more immersive experience in the Mhamid el Ghizlane desert, consider hiring a local guide or joining a 4x4 tour from Mhamid village. Depending on the length and inclusivity of the tour, prices can range from 300 MAD to 1500 MAD per person. This option provides the opportunity to explore deeper into the desert landscapes, experience local culture, and enjoy activities such as camel trekking.
