Car
If you are driving, head towards Merzouga from the nearest city, Rissani, which is about 50 km away. Follow the N13 road south until you reach the junction for Merzouga. Turn onto the R702 road, which is well marked and leads directly to Merzouga. As you approach Merzouga, you will see signs for the Merzouga Dunes. Parking is available near the dunes, but be cautious of road conditions, as some parts can be sandy.
Taxi
From Rissani, you can hire a taxi to take you to Merzouga. The taxi fare typically costs around 300-400 MAD (Moroccan Dirhams) for a one-way trip. Ensure to negotiate the fare before starting the journey. The trip takes approximately 45 minutes, and the driver will know the route to the dunes. Once in Merzouga, you can find local guides for camel rides and desert tours.
Public Bus
You can take a bus from larger cities like Errachidia or Rissani to Merzouga. The bus ride from Rissani costs around 40-50 MAD and takes about 1 hour. Buses usually leave in the morning, so check the schedule in advance. The bus will drop you off in the center of Merzouga. From there, you can walk or take a local taxi to the dunes.
Shared Minibus
Shared minibuses are available from Rissani to Merzouga and are a budget-friendly option. The cost is about 30-40 MAD per person, and they leave when full. The journey takes about 45 minutes. Once you arrive in Merzouga, you can arrange a camel trek or a guided tour to explore the dunes.
