Getting There
Walking
From central New Bagan, head south on the main road (New Bagan Road). Walk approximately 1.5 kilometers until you reach the junction with Old Bagan Road (you will see signs pointing towards Old Bagan). Turn left onto Old Bagan Road and continue walking for about 500 meters. You will notice the temples and pagodas along the way. Keep walking straight until you see the iconic Ananda Temple on your right; Old Bagan is just beyond this landmark.
Bicycle Rental
Rent a bicycle from one of the many rental shops in New Bagan. Cycle south on New Bagan Road for about 1.5 kilometers until you reach the junction with Old Bagan Road. Turn left onto Old Bagan Road and continue cycling for about 500 meters. Follow the signs to various temples, and you will arrive at the heart of Old Bagan, where you can explore the area at your leisure. Rental costs typically range from 1,000 to 2,000 kyats per day.
Horse Cart
Find a horse cart (also known as a pony cart) in New Bagan; these are commonly available near hotels and popular tourist spots. Negotiate a fare (usually around 3,000 to 5,000 kyats) for a ride to Old Bagan. The driver will take you through scenic pathways, and you can enjoy the views along the way. The ride will take roughly 15-20 minutes, and the driver will drop you off near the main temples of Old Bagan.
E-Scooter Rental
Look for e-scooter rental services in New Bagan. After renting an e-scooter (approximately 5,000 kyats for a few hours), head south on New Bagan Road. After about 1.5 kilometers, turn left onto Old Bagan Road. Continue straight for another 500 meters until you reach Old Bagan. E-scooters provide a quick and fun way to travel, and you can park them near the temples.
