Car
If you are traveling by car within the Namib Desert, you will need to head towards the Etosha National Park. Start from Windhoek, the capital city of Namibia, which is approximately 400 km (about 5 hours) away. Take the B1 highway north towards Okahandja and then continue on the B1 until you reach the turn-off for the C38 road towards Etosha. Follow the C38 until you reach the Andersson Gate, which is the main entrance to Etosha National Park. Once inside the park, drive approximately 17 km to reach Okaukuejo, which is well-signposted. Be aware that there is an entrance fee for the park, which costs around NAD 80 for adults and NAD 40 for children (prices may vary).
Public Transportation
For those opting for public transportation, you can take a long-distance shuttle or bus service from Windhoek to Outjo, which is the nearest town to Etosha National Park. These buses run regularly and the journey takes about 6-7 hours. From Outjo, you will need to hire a taxi or arrange for a shuttle service to take you to the Andersson Gate of Etosha National Park, which is approximately 70 km away. Once you enter the park, you can drive or take a guided tour vehicle to Okaukuejo. Keep in mind that public transport options may not operate daily, so check schedules in advance. Also, be prepared for additional costs for the taxi/shuttle service.
