Car Rental

If you're traveling by car, the most convenient way to reach Sossusvlei is to rent a vehicle in Windhoek, the capital of Namibia, which is approximately 350 kilometers away. From Windhoek, take the B1 highway south towards Rehoboth. Continue on the B1 until you reach the turn-off for the C26 towards Solitaire. Follow the C26, which will lead you to the C14 road. After about 60 kilometers on the C14, you will arrive at the Sossusvlei entrance gate. Remember to pay the entrance fee (around N$ 80 per person) at the gate. From the entrance, it's about a 60-kilometer drive on a gravel road to Sossusvlei itself. Be sure to have a high-clearance vehicle for this part of the journey.

Public Transportation (Bus)

You can take a public bus from Windhoek to Sesriem, which is the nearest town to Sossusvlei. The bus service is operated by several companies and departs daily from Windhoek. The journey takes approximately 6-7 hours and costs around N$ 200-300. Once you arrive in Sesriem, you will need to arrange for a shuttle or taxi to take you to Sossusvlei (about 60 kilometers away). The shuttle service typically costs around N$ 300-400 per person for a round trip.
