Car
If you're traveling by car, start from the main entrance to Spitzkoppe, located at the intersection of the B1 and the road leading to the park. Follow the road into the park, paying the entrance fee of approximately 50 Namibian dollars per person at the entrance gate. Once inside, continue on the main road for about 10 kilometers. Look for signs directing you towards Big Daddy Dune, which is located near the eastern side of the park. Park your car at the designated parking area and walk towards the dune, following the marked paths.
Public Transportation
To reach Big Daddy Dune via public transportation, first take a bus from Windhoek to Swakopmund. From Swakopmund, you can find shuttle services or local taxis that operate to Spitzkoppe. The shuttle ride will cost approximately 250 Namibian dollars per person. Once you arrive at Spitzkoppe, you can hire a local guide with a 4x4 vehicle to take you to Big Daddy Dune, which may cost around 800 Namibian dollars for a half-day tour. Make sure to negotiate the price and confirm that the guide will take you to the dune.
Hiking
For adventurous travelers, consider hiking from the main campsite area in Spitzkoppe to Big Daddy Dune. This hike is approximately 7 kilometers and offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape. Start at the campsite and follow the marked trails towards the dune. Make sure to carry plenty of water, wear sun protection, and allow yourself several hours to complete the hike, as it can be challenging in the heat.
