Car
If you are traveling by car, start your journey from the nearest major city, which is Jomsom. Drive towards the north on the Jomsom to Muktinath road. After approximately 25 kilometers, you will reach the village of Kagbeni. Here, you need to take a detour towards the east. Continue driving for about 12 kilometers until you reach the small town of Surkhang. From Surkhang, you should follow the local signs or ask for directions to Damodar Kunda, which is approximately 4 kilometers further into the hills. Be cautious as the roads can be narrow and winding. A local guide is recommended for this part of the journey.
Public Transportation
To reach Damodar Kunda using public transportation, take a bus from Pokhara to Jomsom. The bus journey will take around 8-10 hours. Once in Jomsom, you can hire a local jeep or share a ride with other travelers heading towards Muktinath. Get off at Kagbeni and then arrange for a local guide or a jeep to take you to Surkhang. The cost for the jeep ride from Kagbeni to Surkhang is approximately NPR 2000-3000 depending on the number of passengers. After reaching Surkhang, you can either walk or hire a local guide to take you the remaining 4 kilometers to Damodar Kunda.
Trekking
For adventurous travelers, consider trekking to Damodar Kunda. Start your trek from Jomsom. The trek will take approximately 3 days, with overnight stops at villages along the way. Follow the trail that leads from Jomsom to Muktinath, then head east towards Surkhang. The final stretch from Surkhang to Damodar Kunda will take about 2-3 hours of walking. Ensure you have proper trekking gear and carry enough supplies, as there are limited facilities along the route.
