Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car, you can start from the center of Kathmandu. Head north towards Boudhanath Stupa, which is a well-known landmark. Continue on the road towards Budhanilkantha. From Boudhanath, it will take approximately 30-40 minutes to reach Kopan Monastery. Look for the signs for 'Kopan Monastery' as you approach the area. Once you reach Budhanilkantha, navigate to P9V7+3X7 Ward 11, where the monastery is located. Parking options are available near the entrance.

• Public Transportation (Bus)

  For those using public transportation, you can take a bus from the Ratnapark Bus Station in Kathmandu. Look for a bus heading towards Budhanilkantha. The fare is around NPR 30-50. The journey may take approximately 1 hour, depending on traffic. Once you arrive at Budhanilkantha, ask the locals for directions to Kopan Monastery; it is a short walk of about 15-20 minutes from the bus stop. Follow the road signs or utilize a map application on your smartphone for the best route.

• Taxi

  Taking a taxi is a more convenient but costlier option. You can hire a taxi from any location in Kathmandu to Kopan Monastery. The fare should be negotiated beforehand, and you can expect to pay around NPR 800-1200, depending on your starting point. The taxi will drive you directly to the monastery, which simplifies the journey and avoids the need for additional navigation.

• Motorbike Rental

  If you are comfortable riding, consider renting a motorbike. Several rental shops are available in Thamel, the tourist district in Kathmandu. The rental cost is typically around NPR 1000-1500 per day. Ride north towards Boudhanath, then continue to Budhanilkantha. Make sure to use a GPS or map application for navigation, as the roads can be confusing. Once you arrive near Budhanilkantha, follow the local signs to Kopan Monastery.
