From Kanchenjunga Base Camp, first, you will need to make your way to the nearest town with public transport access. This is usually Taplejung. Begin your journey by trekking down to Taplejung, which can take several days depending on your trekking speed. Once in Taplejung, you can find local buses or shared jeeps that head to the town of Sukhiapokhari. The fare is generally around NPR 500-700. From Sukhiapokhari, you can catch another bus or jeep to Phaplu, which is approximately NPR 1000-1500.
Car Hire
If you prefer a quicker route, you might consider hiring a private vehicle from Kanchenjunga Base Camp to Phaplu. This can be arranged through local trekking agencies or hotels. The cost will vary but expect to pay around NPR 10,000-15,000 for a one-way trip. The journey will take about 6-8 hours, depending on road conditions.
Flight
Once in Phaplu, you can take a domestic flight to Lukla, which is the gateway to the Everest Base Camp Trek. Flights from Phaplu to Lukla are available, and the fare is around NPR 4000-6000. Make sure to book your flight in advance, as seats can fill up quickly, especially during the trekking season.
Trekking
After arriving in Lukla, the trek to Everest Base Camp will commence. Follow the well-marked trails through the Khumbu region, which will take approximately 10-14 days depending on your pace and acclimatization. It’s advisable to hire a local guide or porter for assistance and to enhance your experience.
