Car
If you are in Kanchenjunga Base Camp and have access to a car, the first step is to drive towards the town of Taplejung. You will need to take the road leading south from the base camp, which will eventually connect to the main highway. The drive to Taplejung takes approximately 2 hours depending on road conditions. Once in Taplejung, you can continue your journey towards the Khangchendzonga National Park entrance. Make sure to follow road signs toward Suketar and then take the road leading to the park. There may be parking facilities near the park entrance.
Public Transportation
For those relying on public transportation, the best option is to take a local bus from Kanchenjunga Base Camp to Taplejung. The buses usually depart in the morning, so it's advisable to ask locals about the schedule. The bus ride will take around 2-3 hours. Once you arrive in Taplejung, you can hire a jeep or take another local bus heading towards the Khangchendzonga National Park entrance. The fare for the jeep may range from NPR 1,500 to NPR 3,000 depending on the number of passengers.
Trekking
If you enjoy trekking, you can hike from Kanchenjunga Base Camp to the Khangchendzonga National Park entrance. This route will take you through stunning landscapes and is a great way to experience the region's natural beauty. The trek will take approximately 4-5 days, so make sure to be well-prepared with supplies, food, and camping gear. It is advisable to hire a local guide for this trek to ensure safety and navigation.
Permits
Before heading to Khangchendzonga National Park, be sure to obtain the required permits. You can acquire these from the Nepal Tourism Board or the local office in Taplejung. The cost for the permit typically ranges from NPR 200 to NPR 2,000 depending on the duration and type of access you require. Always keep your permit handy, as you will need to present it at the park entrance.
