From the heart of Thamel, head east on Tridevi Marg. Continue walking for about 10-15 minutes until you reach a large intersection. Here, you will see the entrance to Basantapur Durbar Square on your left. Follow the signs that lead you to Kathmandu Durbar Square. The square is a well-known landmark, so don't hesitate to ask locals for directions if needed.

You can hire a rickshaw from various points in Thamel. Simply negotiate the fare with the driver before starting your journey; it usually costs around 200-300 NPR (Nepalese Rupees) to Kathmandu Durbar Square. Ask the driver to take you to 'Basantapur Durbar Square' to ensure they understand your destination. The ride will take approximately 5-10 minutes, depending on traffic.

While less common for tourists, you can take a local bus from Thamel to get closer to Kathmandu Durbar Square. Walk to the bus stop at Ratna Park, which is around a 15-minute walk from Thamel.
