If you are traveling by car in Upper Mustang, start from the town of Jomsom, which is the main hub in the region. Drive south on the road towards Kagbeni. After approximately 3 kilometers, you will reach Kagbeni. From Kagbeni, continue driving towards the east for about 10 kilometers until you reach the village of Muktinath. Just before entering Muktinath, look for a sign indicating Jangchub Choeling Monastery. The monastery is located a short distance from the main road. Be cautious of the rocky terrain and ensure your vehicle is suitable for rough roads.
Public Transportation (Local Bus)
From Jomsom, you can take a local bus heading towards Muktinath. Buses leave regularly from the Jomsom bus station. The fare is typically around 200 NPR. The bus ride will take approximately 1-2 hours, depending on road conditions. Once you reach Muktinath, you can walk or hire a local guide to lead you to Jangchub Choeling Monastery, which is located a short distance away. Make sure to ask the bus conductor to drop you off at the closest point to the monastery.
Trekking
For those who prefer a more adventurous route, consider trekking from Kagbeni to Jangchub Choeling Monastery. Start your trek from Kagbeni, following the trail that leads east. The trek will take you through stunning landscapes and small villages. It is approximately a 3-hour hike to reach the monastery. Ensure you have appropriate trekking gear and enough water and snacks for the journey. Local guides can provide assistance and knowledge about the area.
