Getting There

• Walking

  If you are already in Centrum, head towards Dam Square. The National Monument is located directly in the center of Dam Square. From the Royal Palace, which is at the western end of the square, walk straight towards the monument, which is an obelisk-shaped structure. It should be clearly visible as you approach the center of the square. This walk is about a 5-minute stroll from the Royal Palace.

• Public Transport

  If you are further away in Centrum, you can take the tram. Look for tram lines 4, 14, or 24. Board the tram at any nearby tram stop that is served by these lines, and ride until you reach the 'Dam' stop. The National Monument is just a short walk from the tram stop; when you disembark, head towards the large square in front of you. This journey typically takes about 10-15 minutes depending on your starting point and tram frequency. A single tram ticket costs about €3.20, which can be purchased at machines at the tram stops.

• Bicycle

  If you prefer to cycle, Amsterdam has many bike rental shops throughout Centrum. Rent a bike and head towards Dam Square. There are dedicated bike lanes leading to the square, and once you arrive, you can park your bicycle at one of the bike racks around the square. The cycling time from most central locations should be around 10 minutes, depending on traffic. Renting a bike typically costs around €10-€15 per day.

• Taxi or Ride-sharing Service

  If you would rather take a taxi or a ride-sharing service like Uber, simply request a ride to 'Dam Square'. The drivers are familiar with the area, and you will be dropped off just steps away from the National Monument. The fare will vary based on your starting location, but expect to pay between €10 and €20 for a short ride within Centrum.
