From the Paterson Bus Terminal, take NJ Transit Bus #190 towards New York Port Authority. Make sure to check the bus schedule for the next departure. The bus ride will take approximately 45 minutes. Once you arrive at the Port Authority, you can walk to the nearby 42nd St. & 8th Ave subway station. From there, take the A, C, or E train towards Uptown Manhattan and get off at 42nd St. & 8th Ave. Transfer to the 1, 2, or 3 train and head downtown. Get off at 14th St. & 7th Ave, and walk east towards Union Square.

From the Paterson Train Station, board a New Jersey Transit train heading towards New York Penn Station. The journey will take about 30 minutes. Once you arrive at Penn Station, follow the signs to the subway. Take the L train from 34th St. & 8th Ave towards Brooklyn. Get off at 14th St. and walk east to find Union Square.

If you are near the Great Falls National Historical Park, you can walk to Union Square. Start by heading north on McBride Ave towards Market St. Turn left onto Market St and continue straight until you reach the intersection with 2nd Ave. Turn right on 2nd Ave and walk until you reach the intersection with 14th St. Now head east on 14th St until you reach Union Square. This walk will take approximately 1 hour.
