You will need to pay a small entrance fee for the Sandy Hook unit of Gateway National Recreation Area, which is typically around $15 per vehicle. Once inside, follow the signs to Fort Hancock, which is located at the northern tip of Sandy Hook. The drive will take about 30 minutes depending on traffic.

To reach Fort Hancock via public transportation, take the NJ Transit train from various locations in Jersey Shore to the Long Branch station. From Long Branch, transfer to the 834 bus (Sandy Hook Shuttle) which will take you directly to Sandy Hook. The bus fare is approximately $2.50. Once you arrive at Sandy Hook, you can walk or bike to Fort Hancock, which is about a 10-15 minute walk. Be sure to check the NJ Transit schedule in advance, as bus and train schedules may vary.
